Job Purpose:
Seasoned, analytically driven, and consultative market researcher to support the Market Strategy and Intelligence team’s efforts to share the voice of our customers across the company. Balancing the management of ongoing tracking studies with ad hoc research, the analyst will uncover client needs and translate to a study’s design, ultimately to deliver actionable, relatable insights to business leaders. Analyst will play a role in informing the future direction of Market Intelligence, including how data is collected, analyzed, and reported.

About Market Strategy and Intelligence:

The Market Strategy and Intelligence team’s work informs strategic decision-making and is responsible for trend and scenario analysis, strategic data and information, and other customer data analytics in support of strategic planning and execution for the US business, to help shape the evolution of the company toward a clean energy future serving our valued customers. The team’s Market Intelligence analysts work to capture the voice of the customer, providing a consultative resource to design and execute research, provide actionable results, and inform the priorities in improving our customer’s experiences and building stronger customer loyalty. The team manages a broad portfolio of tracking studies, two online communities, and numerous qualitative and quantitative ad hoc research projects. We value a diverse range of perspectives that stem from many different backgrounds.

Key Accountabilities:

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Be a proactive business partner, identifying relevant research and sharing actionable insights and recommendations to drive customer-centricity and customer experience improvements.
Nurture internal business relationships to enhance incorporation of voice of customer understanding and focus into enterprise business processes including government affairs policy development, product and service enhancement and development, customer contact and billing operations, customer digital strategy, marketing and communications strategy, community engagement, and rate design and actions.
Manage entire primary market research process including selecting and managing vendors, designing research in partnership with internal clients, developing survey instruments, conducting data analysis, preparing reports, and delivering presentations of findings and recommendations, in addition to enterprise and regulatory metric development and target tracking and reporting.
Lead capture of both residential and commercial customer insights and inform stakeholders across the company, including product & service development, contact centers, brand and marketing communications, strategic planning, regulatory and company leaders.
Conducts market research studies to support customer segmentation strategies, and aid in development of appropriate service and product strategies for different customer segments.
Manage the National Grid’s online research communities for residential and commercial customers; managing the research process across all stakeholders and working with the research vendor to ensure a positive experience for community members.
Manage a complex research program and/or a large volume of research projects in an evolving environment with a diverse set of stakeholders.
Provide detailed data analysis of customer experiences, attitudes and preferences and explain in everyday terms.
Work collaboratively with data scientists to determine approach to advanced data analytics and large data sets.

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required:

May also serve in a lead role and assist in planning, coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring and evaluating the work results in assigned area and in selecting, training, motivating, evaluating and developing lower-level personnel.
Partner with Market Strategy Analysts and Customer Experience Architects to assist with journey map inputs, learnings, and propensity analysis of customer pain points and opportunities.
Be an industry expert providing market insight into best-practices, peer utilities, and consumer trends.
Support Market Strategy and Intelligence’s evolution to more real-time insights and advanced data capabilities.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a science or business field, or equivalent experience; Master’s degree is a plus.
10+ years’ experience in a market research role.
Proficient with advanced quantitative and qualitative methods of marketing and customer research including complex multivariate statistical techniques such as regression, conjoint, segmentation, propensity modeling, discriminate, discrete choice and factor analysis; research and sample design, survey methods and instrument development, data collection, analysis and reporting of results; competitive intelligence research techniques and practices; economic and pricing principles; principles and practices of developing, managing and maintaining complex databases;
Adept in interfacing and collaborating with internal client as well as external vendors.
Proven consultative skills, such as effectively using data analytics to tell a story, comfortable presenting to business leaders, and clearly and compellingly guiding strategic discussions.
Skilled in the translation of client needs and process into analytical design and insights.
Experience being forward-thinking, evolving research as company vision, business requirements, and customer expectations shift.
Capable of highly detail-oriented and investigative research as well as strong project management skills.
Excited about working with a team of collaborative and passionate customer insights professionals to bring research to life.
Excellent verbal & written communication skills as well as problem solving, quantitative and analytical skills.
Experience with research among consumer and business audiences.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Solid knowledge of SPSS, Qualtrics, Power BI or similar analytical software preferred, but not required.
Experience in business market research and segmentation desirable.
Experience with Design thinking methodologies a plus.
