Director of Research

Are you passionate about guiding a company to the next phase using insights and innovation? EMI is seeking a highly motivated and experienced researcher to join our team as the Director of Research. In this key leadership role, you will enhance our capabilities by delivering internal and external industry insights, leading our quality efforts, and assisting in driving sales growth. You will lead comprehensive research initiatives, manage ongoing internal studies, assist with client research initiatives, provide thought leadership, and play a central role in the continuous improvement of our quality assurance practices. This role requires close collaboration with the Client Services, Marketing, Insights, and Research Management teams to deliver insights and elevate EMI’s position in the market research industry.
Responsibilities:
Research Leadership:
- Lead research initiatives for IntelliBlend (EMI’s proprietary sample blending methodology), focusing on continuous improvement.
- Design, manage, and analyze ongoing internal research on our partner network.
- Develop and update products (IntelliBlend) to meet industry and client needs.
- Assist clients with specific questions around survey design, methodology, and best practices.
Internal and External Insights:
- Assist Sales and Research Management teams with full-service questions and survey-related matters.
- Educate Sales teams and clients on industry trends, privacy & legislative updates, competitive intelligence, new innovations, and other factors influencing the industry.
- Network with external peers, attend conferences, and join relevant professional affiliations to stay informed.
- Collaborate with the Insights team to leverage gathered insights via various marketing efforts such as white papers, blogs, conference presentations, webinars, etc.
Sales Enablement:
- Provide sample advice and consulting on ideal blends, base sizes, partner identification, and best practices.
- Co-present with Sales for current clients and prospects.
- Work closely with marketing and sales teams to create compelling sales decks.
- Partner with Marketing to present on webinars and other channels
Innovation and Industry Trends:
- Stay abreast of industry trends and innovations, such as APIs, AI, synthetic respondents, and data quality standards.
- Provide consultation to external clients on research design, methodology, data quality, and analysis.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Serve as a leader within the organization, partnering with all functions to ensure alignment and effective execution of research initiatives.
- Participate in various internal teams, including leading the Quality Council, to monitor and improve research processes.
- Collaborate closely with the Insights team to ensure insights are effectively shared and utilized across functions.
Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement:
- Monitor and ensure the quality of research processes and deliverables across all projects.
- Develop and implement quality control mechanisms to assess research accuracy, consistency, and data integrity throughout the research lifecycle.
- Stay on top of industry quality trends and best practices and incorporate them into EMI’s internal processes and tools to enhance research accuracy and client satisfaction.
- Regularly evaluate and refine quality tools and methodology processes to continuously improve operational efficiency and research outcomes.
- Oversee internal audits of research methodologies, identify gaps in quality, and work to implement corrective actions.
Training and Onboarding:
- Train new employees on EMI’s sampling methodologies (IntelliBlend, Strategic Sample Blending, etc.) and Research-on-Research (ROR).
- Serve as a resource for onboarding new team members, ensuring they are fully integrated into EMI's research methodologies and quality standards.
Skills and Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in market research, with a focus on insights, design, and analysis.
- Proven experience in marketing research methodologies, with a focus on online quantitative research and data analysis.
- Strong background in research design, including consulting on research methodologies, data quality, and reporting.
- Expert knowledge of various analytic solutions such as multiple regression, choice-based solutions, factor analysis, and cluster analysis.
- Experience using data analytics tools like SPSS, Sawtooth, PowerBI, etc.
- Strong report writing and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate insights to various audiences.
- Familiarity with the online sample industry, sample frames, and sampling methodologies.
- Understanding of data quality measures and relevant industry standards.
- Experience working with key sample providers and research methods.
- A high level of motivation and passion for continuous improvement in both research practices and quality control.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and other relevant web-based programs.
